Kelsey Gilmore-Futeral

Kelsey Gilmore-Futeral is a legislative attorney with Best Friends Animal Society, based in Kanab, Utah. She grew up in South Dakota where she developed her passion for animal welfare
and moved to Charleston, SC to compete on the equestrian team at the College of Charleston where she stayed for law school. Kelsey co-founded the Charleston School of Law's Student Animal Legal Defense Fund chapter and graduated magna cum laude. Kelsey served as the chair of the SC Bar's Animal Law Committee from 2015 - 2018 and served as an officer on the board of directors for Alliance of Therapy Dogs, the nation's premier dog therapy registry, from 2010 until 2022. For Best Friends, Kelsey works to address legislative and policy priorities across the country with the goal of ending the killing of healthy and treatable animals in America's shelters
by 2025. She is an adjunct professor with the Charleston School of Law teaching Animal Law and lives just outside Charleston, SC with her husband, three rescue Japanese Chin dogs, and
horse.
