In 2024, Governor McMaster signed a groundbreaking provision into law, helping reduce resource strain on local agencies by simplifying custody decisions for legally seized animals. Join an expert who has successfully leveraged this new statute to secure positive outcomes for animals, communities, and budgets. PawBoost, a platform for lost and found pets, has helped reunite over 1.8 million pets with their owners. Since its inception in 2014, PawBoost has grown to be a leader in lost-pet recovery by offering features that enable widespread awareness and community engagement. With a database that includes both lost and found pet reports and a network of over 7 million members in the “Rescue Squad,” PawBoost provides free local alerts and shares posts across social media platforms like Facebook. This approach effectively increases the chances of locating missing pets, thanks to the wide audience reach and rapid visibility. Yet, many shelters are simply unaware of its power, the broad emphasis on community involvement and have missed an opportunity to use a tool, free of charge, that can exponentially assist in not just reunification, but cost savings, kennel space and most importantly, getting lost animals back home where they belong.

2B | Back to Basics - Animal Sheltering Fundamentals

However, with the emergent changes following the pandemic, and the influx of team members that are new to the field, it's easy to lose sight of the foundations of animal shelter operations.
