Horry County Case Study
In 2021, under the leadership of the new shelter director, Captain Justin Wyatt, Horry County Animal Care Center embarked on a journey to implement best practices, save more animals, and improve staff morale. They partnered with everyone who offered help including national, state wide, and local organizations and together, they accomplished their goals in just 6 months. New positions and capital projects were approved, ordinances to shutter puppy stores and allow for a full community cat program passed council, and the save rate for cats doubled. Captain Wyatt kept pushing forward in the face of each new barrier and this session is an opportunity to hear from him and some of his partners about their struggles and ultimate triumph.
